National Park Service (NPS) Landing Zone Permits
Every year, we purchase a special use permit from the NPS in order to land our parachutes onto NPS property from 9am-3pm on Bridge Day. If we did not obtain the permit, the NPS would charge us with Illegal Aerial Delivery, which is punishable by a $5000 fine, gear confiscation, and up to one year in jail. Jumpers should be familiar with the permit conditions, as the NPS could pull our permit at any time if any of their rules are broken (and they routiney threaten to do so). Unfortunately, while the NPS only owns the landing area and has a very limited knowledge of parachuting, they impose strict jumping guidelines and charge us hefty fees to use their landing zone. This year, we'll write a check for $2500 to the NPS to rent the landing area for six hours. In addition, we have to purchase a $1,000,000 liability insurance policy to protect the spectators in the landing area. Details of the permit conditions are located below.
